Veterinary Research & Disease Investigation Center, Kohat

        Brief Introduction of the Center:

Livestock plays a key role in the house hold economy of farming community. The District Kohat  is mostly hilly, most of the farmers have small land holding. The area is 77% rain fed and 23% irrigated. The people are very poor and mostly depends upon livestock and majority of farmers having 1 to 5 animals. There are number of problems in desired livestock production, performance and lack of interest towards the improved management (housing & feeding) and treatment of livestock. To minimize these losses, Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa established  Veterinary Research and Disease Investigation Centre (VR&DIC) at Kohat in 1991.

 Objectives

a.       Prevention and control of Livestock and poultry diseases in the area through quality diagnostic services to the farmers.

b.      Poverty Alleviation through Enhancement of Livestock and Poultry production in the area.

c.       Capacity building of farmers through short courses.

d.      Problem oriented research.
